Dr. Feiyu Kang

KANG Feiyu obtained his bachelor and master degrees from Tsinghua University, and began to teach in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1988. He received a Ph.D. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1997, and was later a research associate in Hokkaido University, Japan. He published more than 50 papers on materials science, and became an associate professor in 1997 and full professor in 2001. From 1998, he worked in the Graduate School, in charge of the continuing engineering education. In 2001, he was awarded the National Education Award for achievement in an innovative Master of Engineering program which combines face-to-face with distance learning. His rich experience in running and coordinating vocational training and e-learning programs enables him to understand the Chinese universities teachers’ needs with respect to their professional development.

YANG Rui began her teaching career as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University in 1996. During her first four years, she taught the graduates and the postgraduates Instrumental Analysis. Since then, she has focused her attention on the research of organic phase change materials, modification of thermoset resins, change of material in processing and application process, such as aging and decomposition, and characterization of polymer materials, including Infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography and pyrolysis gas chromatography. Based on this research, she and her colleagues are undertaking several important national research projects.

PENG Lihui began his teaching career as a teaching assistant in the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University in 1990. For two years he was reponsible for the operation of Instrumentation Laboratory. After obtaining his MS and Ph.D. qualifications, he has been working for the same department at Tsinghua University since 1998. He is currently responsible for the undergraduate course of Advanced Measurement Science and Technolgy and is preparing a new course of Multisensor Data Fusion for master students. Besides teaching duties and responsibilities, his research interests include process tomography, inverse problems in imaging, image reconstruction, and measurement techniques for multi-phase (multi-component) flow.


Dr. Wenjing Lu

LU Wenjing works as an assistant researcher in the department of Environmental Science and Engineering in Tsinghua University, after becoming a postdoc in 2003. Her current work is mainly research because she has not yet started teaching. She has gained a relatively broad background in general biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and soil chemistry, as well as agricultural information resources during more than ten years’ work and study in the universities/institute. Her primary research interests are microbial procedures of aromatic compounds degradation and ferric iron reduction in irrigated paddy soils, and bacterial isolation, characterization and identification.

GU Yuantao received his bachelor degree in information and telecommunication from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1998. After he achieved the doctoral degree at Tsinghua University in 2003, he became a lecturer in the Department of Electronics Engineering there. His research mainly focuses on adaptive algorithms, as well as related applications such as echo cancellation and noise reduction. He has a great interest in digital signal processing, especially speech, image and video compression. He will start lecturing a course on "mathematical methods for signal processing" in 2004.

ER Guihua has been a teacher for almost 20 years. She got Bachelor Degree from Tianjin University in 1984 and got Master Degree from Beijing Theory and Technology University in 1989. In 1993 she joined in the Department of Automation in Tsinghua University, where she taught Motion Control System, Microcomputer Control System Design and did some research projects. Now as an associate professor she has a lot of experiences in classroom teaching, course design, textbook writing, graduate students supervision and project development. Teaching in fluent English is a big challenge, but she has confidence to do her best.

CHEN Wenguang received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Tsinghua University in 1995 and 2001 respectively. He was the CTO of Opportunity International Inc. from 2000-2002. Since January 2003, he joined Tsinghua University. He is now an assistant professor in Institute of High Performance Computing, Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University. His research interests include compiler optimization technologies, cluster computing, grid computing and bioinformatics.

DU Zhihui got BE from Tianjin University in 1992 and his MS and Ph.D. degree from Department of Computer Science & Technology at Peking University in 1998. Then he came to Tsinghua University to continue his two years’ post-doc research in Department of Computer Science & Technology and then started his teaching career at Tsinghua. His research interest include cluster system, cluster algorithm, cluster application, grid computing, VIA communication, HPF compiler, MPI programming. He is the member of IEEE Computer Society. He has accomplished about twenty projects and published two books and about 40 papers.

As the deputy chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture and the director of the Institute of Resource Protection and Tourism, School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, YANG Rui focuses on the research and planning for the national parks and protected areas of China. His career goal is to become a leading professional in his field. He got a bachelor degree of Architecture in 1989, a master degree of urban planning and design in 1991, and Ph. D. Degree of Landscape architecture in 2003 from Tsinghua University. He was appointed as an associate professor in 1998.

WANG Xiaoqing began her teaching experience as a teaching assistant in 1992 when she was pursuing her Ph.D. degree in the Department of Chemistry, Peking University. Her real teaching career began in 1996 as a associate professor in the Chemistry Department of Tsinghua University. She taught two courses in inorganic chemistry area each year. One is for first-year students majored in chemical engineering, named “Inorganic and Analytic Chemistry”. The other is “Advanced Inorganic Chemistry” facing to the third-year students in Chemistry Department. As for research activity, she now is interesting in crystal structure of inorganic compounds, and inorganic crystal materials.

GAO Yanfang got her MSc in Zhejiang University, major in polymer science and engineering in 1991. Since then, she has been working in Tsinghua University. She taught undergraduates some courses of polymer, such as polymer chemistry, poly materials application. Now she gives a lecture of polymer science introduction opened to all students of Tsinghua University. Her research focuses on design, synthesis, characterization and modelling of novel polymers, especially polymer-based nanocomposites, such as magnetic nanoparticles / polymer composites and carbon nanotubes / polymer composites.

LI Xiu came to work at Tsinghua University after she graduated from Nanjing with a Ph.D. degree in 2000. Now she is a teacher in School of Information Science and Technology. Her major is Management Information System. The course she teaches is Production Planning and Control, which focuses on how to make business plan, main production schedule, resource plan, factory coordination, and production activity control according by the situation of an enterprise. PAC includes the working out of final plan schedule, inspection and control of the plan executing in real-time.


Dr. Wang Hui

WANG Hui joined in Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1997 after got her Ph.D. degree from Institute of Photographic Chemistry, CAS, major in biochemistry. Her research is on the application of molecular microbiology in environmental monitoring and bioremediation. She has spent over one year in M.I.T , working on molecular microbiology. This experience gives her deeper insights into her researches as well as good training on experimental skill. She had taught two courses, organic chemistry and instrumental analysis in environment. She is preparing a new course-Modern Environmental Monitoring of Bacteria, and writing a textbook for the course.

After getting Ph.D. degree from Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University in 1993, Dr. Wang started teaching in Tsinghua. I am a member of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. I also serve as a member of Scientific Committee of Olympiad in Information for Chinese Computer Federation, a member of Laboratory Work Committee of Tsinghua University. My main research interests include mobile robot, computer vision, artificial intelligence, data fusion and human-machine interaction, etc. From 1987 to 1988 I was a visiting research assistant at INRIA, France. I worked as a visiting researcher at the Department of Intelligent Assistant Driving, Daimler-Benz Research, Stuttgart, Germany, from 1996 to 1997.

JIA Haifeng got his Ph.D. degree of Environmental Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University in1999, and then began his teaching and research career as a lecture in the department of environmental science and engineering. In the department, he was responsible for 3 courses: 'Environmental Impact Assessment' and 'Environmental Information Techniques' for undergraduate students and 'Environmental Remote Sensing' for graduate students. The late 2 course were the new courses in the department. As to the research fields, he focused on the environmental system analysis, environmental plan and management, and 3S(RS.GIS,GPS) applications in the environment science.

Yuan Dong received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering Mechanics and Solid Mechanics from Tsinghua University in 1996 and 2001 respectively. He was engaged in inverse problem theory, numerical methods, optimization algorithms and software development for five years before lecturing in the Department of
Computer Science and Technology in 2001. His current research focus on software engineering, embedded systems, and distributed component technology in computer science. With the knowledge and experiences in engineering mechanics, he is working at how software development can be considered as an inverse problem and how the principles of inversion can be used to evaluate and improve the software development process.


Dr. Lin Chen

CHEN Lin got the Ph.D. degree from Tsinghua University in 2002 and become a lecturer in Department of Chemistry. Her research work focus on the mechanism of the phase transition behaviors of phospholipids, which are the major components in biomembrane. It belongs to the multidiscipline between biology and chemistry. She has published over 10 academic papers in the international journals. She is teaching the junior undergraduate students Physical Chemistry, which is a fundamental course for students in Department of Biology. She will work step by step to develop professionally as a teacher and researcher.

QIAO lin received Ph.D. degree in Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University in 2001. And then he began his teaching career as a lecturer in Computer and Information Management Center at the same university. He taught Programming in C, Programming in Kylix Under Linux and Modern Operating Systems. His research experiences in having designed a parallel C Compiler and a simulator of very-long instruction word (VLIW) parallel processor have made him meet the needs of students in different backgrounds. While specialized in teaching programming and operating system, his current research focuses on parallel algorithms, natural language processing and web information retrieval techniques, especially in an intranet environment.


Dr. Hongming Zhang

ZHANG Hongming received the B.S. and the Ph.D. degrees in electronics and engineering from the Tsinghua University in 1998 and 2003, respectively. Now he is a research assistant at Tsinghua lab, State Key Lab on Integrated Optoelectronics. His research activities include key technologies in ultra-high speed, large capacity communication system, such as mode locked fiber laser, various of photonic switching, optical sampling technology, optical signal processing based on the nonlinearities in SOA and fiber. From 2001 till now, he has published 7 papers in journals and conferences. He will teach at Department of Electronics Engineering in 2004.

PAN Wenqing earned his B.S. at Northwest teacher's University in Gansu province, an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics, from Lanzhou University and People's University of China respectively. Prior to joining the faculty at Tsinghua University, he was an Assistant at Lanzhou University. Wenqing is a lecturer of School of Economics & Management at Tsinghua University. His research interest is in Quantitative Economics, including Economic Growth, Income and distribution Regional Development, International Economics. His current research focus on the building of national macroeconomic model and linkage model among several regions. The courses he taught include Statistics for Economy and Business, Econometrics, Input-Output Analysis

LIU Bin got the Bachelor, Master and Ph.D degree of Computer Science from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an, China in 1985,1988 and 1993 respectively. From 1993-1995 he worked in Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications as a postdoctoral fellow. In 1995 he became as an associated professor at Tsinghua University. He become a full-professor in 1999 and was promoted as a Ph. D supervisor in the following year. He likes running, mountain-climbing, swimming, playing volleyball, ping pang, and Chinese chess. He prefers noodles, gruel, boiled dumplings and some sweet food. He is open-mind, patient, humorous, and easy-going.

ZHANG Fushi studied at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. After that he has worked in Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, for over 30 years. He teaches three courses for undergraduate and graduate students, i.e. Structure Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry and Photochemistry. He had worked in national molecular institute, Japan, for 3 month and in University of Melbourne for 1 year as a visiting scholar. As a full professor, he has done a lot of researching work in Laser chemistry, crystallography and chemical luminescence. His main research field is photochemistry and excited state chemistry, a branch of physical chemistry. His current research projects are on organic-optical information storage and photodynamic therapy of cancer.


Dr. Wenjun Liu

LIU Wenjun is an associate professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering. Before coming to Tsinghua, he had worked as a postdoctoral fellow in National University of Singapore, University of Waterloo, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He can communicate well with those whose mother tongue is English. His main objective to join in this project is that he wants to learn how to lecture the courses he teaches better in English. The courses he teaches are Water Treatment and Peer-Reviewed Paper Writing and Critical Reading in English.


YANG Haijun

YANG haijun’s interest in science dates back to his years in high school. He was good at mathematics and won numerous awards in chemistry. In 1994, he came to study in Tsinghua University. He worked as a volunteer teacher in Qinghai province, the poor region of China, for one year before he continued his graduate study. Because of his enthusiasm about teaching, he chose to teach at Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University after graduation.
